Wilderness Folk is a style of folk music that brings together the ideals of the american west and the minimalist approcah of early turn of the century folk. This term was coined by cleveland, ohio native Bryan Yurgelis. His band, Bryan Yurgelis and the Winter Shakers, sing songs of western expansion and history. Many of the songs focus on the wild spaces on the map and the giants of western folklore. John Colter, George Catlin, Everett ruess, John Wesley Powell, and the Yanton Sioux are all topics in their songs.
